The AARTO act is still attempting to introduce a point demerit system for South African drivers, in order to discourage drivers from going above the law and disobeying the rules of the national roads. These demerit points will be based on certain rules and if disobeyed, certain points would be submitted to their driver licence profile.

In conjunction with this, the demerit point system can still be implemented despite the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Act and the AARTO Amendment Act being declared unconstitutional and invalid in a judgment handed down in the Pretoria High Court last week
